    The quality of boiler water and cooling water directly affects the operational efficiency and lifespan of critical equipment such as main and auxiliary engines, boilers, and heat exchangers.  

    Poor water quality can lead to scaling, corrosion, microbiological growth, resulting in equipment failure, reduced energy efficiency, and even safety incidents.  

    While no mandatory international convention exists, shipowners, equipment manufacturers, and classification societies have established clear technical standards and recommended practices for water quality.

    Background and Basis of the Convention

    The Maritime Labour Convention (MLC 2006) requires shipowners to provide safe and healthy living conditions for crew, including drinking water quality, sanitary facilities, and air quality. The Hong Kong International Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships requires vessels to maintain an Inventory of Hazardous Materials (IHM) for safe recycling.  

    The EU Ship Recycling Regulation also mandates IHM for ships calling at EU ports or flying EU flags.

    Background and Basis of the Convention

    Discharged water from ships, including ballast water, gray water, EGCS wash water and sewage water, can severely damage marine ecosystems if not properly treated.  

    The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has established strict standards through conventions such as the Ballast Water Management Convention, MARPOL 73/78, and VGP. Non-compliance may result in fines, detention, or port state control sanctions.

No, we are not limited to China. We have established a service network covering major ports worldwide, enabling us to respond quickly to your testing needs across various shipping routes. You do not need to worry about diverting your vessel or waiting extended periods for testing. We recommend that you communicate your port call information with us as early as possible once the itinerary is confirmed, so that we can coordinate local resources in advance to ensure smooth testing.


What accreditations does your laboratory hold? Are your reports accepted by classification societies and Port State Control (PSC)?
