our company was entrusted by the customer to carry out VGP test for MV T**H**@XX shipyard.
The BWMS installed on board is manufactured by XXX while the process is filtration + electrolysis + neutralization.
When test the TRO of the sampled discharge water, it was found that TRO was exceeding the standard seriously but no alarm came. Based on the experience, sampling engineer judged that there was probably a problem on the BWMS neutralization unit, so they guided the crew to inspect the neutralization unit.
After inspection, it was found that the reagent used to detect TRO in the neutralization unit had expired, so TRO in the discharge water could not be detected, and the neutralization unit stopped adding neutralizing reagent to the discharge water. As a result, the TRO concentration exceeded the standard.
After the crew replaced the new detection reagent, the TRO concentration in the discharge water reached the standard and sampling conducted smoothly.
